Accessibility for educational games is a work in progress across the industry. We continually seek solutions to make our products fully accessible, and we strive to adhere to established standards for accessibility and usability on each new project. Some of our older products may not be accessible in all areas and have not been optimized for current accessibility recommendations. Here, we offer the content and approach of this game, so that learners are better able to find alternative content and ways of learning.
The Magic of Reading Graph module is a study tool for students who are unfamiliar with the concept of coordinate plotting. This module expresses scientific data in a growth-over-time or cause-and-effect way in an easy and understandable manner. When explaining how the variables of data are plotted on a graph to relay change or growth, the module compares the relationship to tangible items such as sugar to iced tea or gasoline to fire to demonstrate the concept. This module effectively expresses how independent and dependent variables correspond on the x and y axis when reading the data. Although this module resembles a traditional slideshow and takes the form of a classroom lecture, the comedic animations embedded in the interactive lessons make it a memorable learning experience.
Some web browsers, such as Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge, may have difficulty running Flash plug-ins required to run the module. Even after enabling the correct Flash player plug-in, some users may have trouble receiving audio. Adobe Flash will no longer be supported by browsers beginning in 2020.
