From Percentages to Formula

How we get from 16% to a commonly used formula is simple.

So, about 0.16 of protein is nitrogen.

If you divide both sides of the equation by 0.16 you get that protein = nitrogen/0.16.

Which is equivalent to: protein = nitrogen x 1/0.16.

Divide 1 by 0.16 and you get 6.25. So, protein = nitrogen x 6.25.
